ICEMAN Cold Air Intake - This is currently the most
popular intake set up because of its flexibility in filter positioning. The
intake is available in a "Competition" set up, which utilizes a 2
piece ABS plastic intake tract that can be configured so that the filter
element is route inside the engine bay or more aggressively underneath the
front headlights. The advantage of routing the air filter away from the
engine bay is so the high temperatures do not affect the density of the
intake charge, resulting in more power. The drawback is that the filter is
more vulnerable to ingesting water, especially if the car is extremely
lowered.

Pioneer's
DEH4700MP

|
|
MTX
Thunder3404

|
Pioneer
has earned its position as a leader in the mobile audio industry. The DEH-4700MP
is a great reason why: high-power (25Wpc x 4 RMS), sat control, ability to
interface with your iPod, wireless remote, cd changer control and excellent radio reception are
reasons why this unit should be at the top of your wish list. Add a
built-in parametric EQ with presets, and stylish
design and this piece is a home in the classiest of rides. Plus the
removable faceplate reduces theft possibility.
|
The
Thunder3404 is CEA-2006 cert'ed, and offers 50W x
4, more than enough to drive your speakers to ear-splitting SPL's. MTX built the Thunder3404 to work hard. To that
end a proprietary cooling technology forces air from an internal fan over
all of the important components, so the amp will stay cool; that will
extend the amp's longevity. The '3404 offers great sound quality, but
really needs speakers at it's quality level to
truly shine. Make this the centerpiece of a full system renovation.

Nakamichi CD300

|
Infinity
Reference 7541a

|
Nakamichi's CD300 Tuner/CD Player has set an
high standard in playback and performance. This is Nak's
first MP3-ready head unit. It delivers premium sound performance, rivaling
some home units, and definitely enhances the driving experience. It's packed features such as RDS, excellent reception,
outstanding CD performance, and back-lighting for comfort on the eyes.
Plus, it's got a cool retro-looking face, that
adds to the anti-theft qualities. If only the thieves knew...
|
Infinity Reference 7451a 4-channel amp is more than ready to take on
virtually any mobile audio need from driving top-end component speakers, or
even supplying power to your twin voice-coil sub. At 111W x 4 into a 4 ohm
load, this is one serious amplifier. Plus, this unit is built like a tank,
with premium design and parts. MOSFET power supplies and output devices
insure great output quantity and quality. Ease of installation makes the
package complete. Beauty and the beast (within), indeed.

Alpine
CDA-9857

|
Rockford Fosgate

|
Alpine's entry-level
receiver plays well, but lacks some of the power of its competitors. It
offers MP3 Support, can act as a CD Changer Controller, and is Sirius/XM
Ready. The '9847 also does iPods and has a removable
faceplate. Its user interface leaves a bit to be desired however, and
setting the sound to your specifications can be a bit tricky. Still, this
is no slouch and carries a legendary name in mobile audio. The '9847 is
worth a look but might be a bit behind its competition.
|
Rockford Fosgate “Punch" your speakers with the 'P4004's power
(a CEA-2006 cert'ed 50W x 4) and control! Typical
of Rockford Fosgate, the 'P4004 has innovative
circuit design, MOSFET output stages, and the usual Fosgate
proprietary technology. The P4004 brings out extraordinary detail in
virtually any music, and gives super-clean power you just can't get from a
lesser amp. This would be the number one choice, but for the Infinity's
double the output per channel. Still, this amp merits SERIOUS consideration.

Panasonic
SQ

|
Kicker's
KX350.4

|
The CQ-C8303U will keep
you entertained — it plays back discs loaded with MP3 and WMA music files
and it'll control a Panasonic satellite radio or CD changer. Connect your iPod to Panasonic's optional iPod
interface and control playback right from the faceplate. You can also use
the auxiliary input to add a portable music player or other external source
to your mobile audio system.
Three sets of preamp
outputs make it easier to build a system, and you even get frequency
filters for optimizing the stereo's output for your speaker setup. Use the
CQ-C8303U's built-in subwoofer controls to manage your bass. And if you're
looking for some extra bass reinforcement without a sub, Panasonic's
"Super Bass Control Subwoofer" feature can direct the bass to
your large rear speakers.
.
|
Kicker's high-end amps set
the standard for clean sound. The KX350.4 is definitely part of the family
tree, equipped with MOSFET power supplies for cool, efficient operation.
Power and flexibility what you need? Kicker's KX350.4 amp has you faded!
With 60W x 4, the KX350.4 will do the job, and you can trust the CEA-2006
compliant power rating reflects the amp's capabilities. Protection
circuitry safeguards against damage from short circuits, overvoltage, reverse voltage, or thermal overloads.

Boss Audio

|
Pioneer
GM6150

|
Boss Audio's offering
rates a high #4 because it's feature-packed and CHEAP! 5 volt preamp outs,
high-performance CD player, dedicated sub out, and switchable
frequency range (for use in the USA,
Europe, and Asia) make this an ideal unit for
persons in the military who may move their
vehicles when they redeploy. A 70Wpc x 4 (max) amplifier
outclasses many models from bigger names. A wireless remote, and motorize
fully-detachable front panel are other highlights of the MP3-3195R
|
This is one versatile
performer! Your high-quality speakers will love the output signal from the
GM6150. You'll appreciate the unparalleled control you have over your
vehicle's sound system with the built-in 4-channel variable crossovers.
Plus, the 'GM6150 will easily connect to almost any head unit with no need
for additional adapters, so you'll get great results without hassles. It's
CEA-2006 cert'ed as well, so you'll be certain to
get the rated power output in your application as well.

Kenwood
KDC

|
Kenwood KAC

|
The only reason this unit
didn't score higher was its price. But for the bag-for-buck rating it gets
a very high score. Loads of usable features are available so keep the
manual handy, as it will be needed to navigate the unit. It plays virtually
all digital file formats including discs loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC
files. High power (22 watts RMS/50 watts peak x 4 channels), satellite
radio controls, dual-zone audio control, and front- and rear-preouts are present as well.
|
This is a great way to
improve your system. At a CEA-2006 cert'ed 40
watts RMS x 4, the 'KAC-6402 will bring out all the details in your music.
Choose the frequencies that the amp receives with the variable high- and
low-pass filters. Plus the '6402 includes speaker-level inputs, for hook-up
to your factory stereo. I recommend that you match this amp with
high-sensitivity speakers as it's only 40W per
channel. But, it will be a definite upgrade over most factory systems.

Sony CDX

|
Alpine
MRV

|
Sony products lead the
world in at least one thing: long model numbers. Luckily, the 7715X
performs well-enough to back'em up. Its best
attribute is CD play. The 'F7715X has an advanced CD mechanism that
includes an improved suspension to resist shocks, a new motor that draws
less power, and a fast new pickup that improves durability and CD playback
accuracy. It offers ATRAC, MP3, and WMA playback. The 7715X also does XM
radio (sat tuner not included) and has relatively high power, 16Wx4 RMS.
|
The 'MRV-F345 4-channel
amp produces 75W x 4, perfect for driving most component systems or
high-quality coaxial speakers. Clean power output allows the speakers to
produce the fine detail that'll make your system the envy of your friends. The
build-quality is impeccable, and the looks are top-rate as well. We've
already covered the sound quality, so as you can tell, this one is a
winner. The '345 placed lower only because it's
street price is a bit higher than most of it's competition.

Focal Access
165A 6.5

|
|
Kicker
02VS12L5

|
Focal has made a strong
reputation in the OEM speaker driver world. Their home line JMLab,
is well-respected and the Focal car line is one of the bright spots in car
stereo. The 165A is a great component setup with a 1" tweeter and a
6.5" bass driver. The crossover network features an adjustable tweeter
level and gentle sloping. It's also high-sensitivity (92dB) so it'll work
well with low-powered receivers or amplifiers. Lacks a little in the lowest
registers but still an excellent choice.

Solo-Baric Loaded boxes
team KICKER’s indestructible Solo-Baric square cone woofers with an
indestructible enclosure. Mounted in each enclosure is KICKER’s revolutionary
square cone L5 subwoofer which simply plays louder and cleaner than
conventional round cone subwoofers by moving more air. The enclosure
features a catalyzed polyurethane coating that’s as tough as nails (it’s
the same stuff used for spray on bedliners for
trucks). If you’re a bass-head who wants to be heard from a block away (you
know who you are!) KICKER vented enclosures are for you. They are designed
for max SPL applications and will kick out some serious bass. Put these
bass brutes side-by-side with with any other
ready-to-install sub boxes and you’ll see and hear the difference. KICKER
boxes come complete with the wildly popular cast aluminum grills.

Infinity
Kappa 60.5cs

|
Infinity 1032W

|
One of
the best speakers available in the class, the Kappa line gets excellent
reviews. In the words of one buyer, they are "...floored with the
sound reproduction these speakers offer, especially for the price!"
Beware of a little brightness at the high-end with female voices, but that
can be taken care of with a little crossover adjustment. From my
experience, they sound best with a little more power, but they have a high
sensitivity so they are versatile.

Infinity
Reference series subwoofers combine a stiff polypropylene cone and
large-roll butyl rubber surround to deliver powerful bass. The dual stacked
magnets and bumped backplate increases efficiency
and provides additional clearance for a whopping 11.9 millimeter cone
excursion. A progressive spider offers better control at the excursion
limit, and a deep-draw I-beam steel basket is extremely ridged and allows
for a longer motor structure. The Reference series is ideal for both sound
quality and SPL applications.

Polk
Audio db6500

|
JL Audio 10W3v2-D2

|
Polk's
db6500 component loudspeakers are simply excellent! Great low-end extension
gives good bass performance, and the adjustable crossover network is going
to correctly tailor the output to your ear. Polk's reputation for
value-driven performance is well earned with this model. The liquid-cooled
silk/polymer composite tweeters can be mounted in either flush- or
surface-mount for your convenience, and the woofer will give you deep, rich
lows
|
The
potent W3v2 subwoofers offer phenomenal performance at moderate power
levels, making them ideal for those seeking sound quality and solid impact
from compact enclosures.
These advanced subwoofers incorporate our patented Elevated Frame-Cooling
technology for enhanced thermal dissipation and 20% more power handling
than the original 10W3, 12W3 and 15W3. Cosmetic upgrades include a
powder-coated silver frame finish, a dished cone/dust-cap design and a
rubber mounting flange gasket that accepts grille mesh inserts directly
(these grille inserts are sold separately).
Long excursion capability and highly optimized motor/suspension systems
ensure clean, articulate bass reproduction with impressive low frequency
extension.
|
Kenwood
KFC-P605ie

|
Cerwin-vega

|
Kenwood's
'605ie is an under-rated system, with great low-end extension, and lots of
good sound. The system is of fairly high-sensitivity, (90dB) so it'll work
well with even low-powered systems. The stiffness of the Mica-impregnated
driver means stiffness and lightness for good responsiveness. The dome
tweeter is efficient, if not super-precise. Still, overall this is a good
option for low-cost component setups.
|
Cerwin-Vega new Intense Technology subwoofers use the
absolute cutting-edge materials to deliver awesome bass response. The
infused Kevlar and Crystalline Oxide Fiber cone with polypropylene coating
is extremely rigid and strong for exceptionally fast, accurate bass. The
butyl rubber surround offers outstanding linearity and durability. The Nomex spider is vastly stronger than conventional cloth
and resists breakdown under high power applications. The whopping 3” voice
coil is hand crafted using precision Swiss wire for total reliability. All
these exotic materials combine to produce one killer subwoofer.
|
Alpine
Type-S

|
Rockford Fosgate “Punch”

|
The
Type-S component speakers are very advanced and they are one of the best
speaker value on the market. Excellent low-end
performance produces deep, tight bass that will make the most exacting
audio enthusiast happy. With a swivel tweeter design for better imaging and
more lively sound, you can make your sonic sweet-spot even sweeter. What's
best is that they perform great with the power from regular head units, so
you can use them with or without an amplifier
|
In
search for sonic nirvana? Punch HX2 subwoofers deliver an awesome
combination of competition-winning sound quality and bone-crushing SPL. HX2
subwoofers utilizing the latest materials and construction techniques
including Rockford’s
unique FIBERLock cone which is a combination of
natural and regenerated cellulose fibers interlaced with a third, longer
fiber. Combine this with three interactive bonding agents and you have a
cone that is lightweight but extremely tough. This unique "paper
composite" cone delivers superior sound quality and incredible
durability. Aluminum formers allow the dual voice coils to shed heat like a
radiator while the aerodynamically back vent allows the HX2 to pound longer
and stay cooler. The CONsealer gasket covers up
mounting screws and provides an airtight seal against the subwoofer
enclosure baffle plate. Rockford’s
new oversized Santoprene BART surround and LXcursion proprietary cast frame team up to assure
maximum cone travel and huge bass!
