ICEMAN Cold Air Intake - This is currently the most
popular intake set up because of its flexibility in filter positioning. The
intake is available in a "Competition" set up, which utilizes a 2
piece ABS plastic intake tract that can be configured so that the filter
element is route inside the engine bay or more aggressively underneath the
front headlights. The advantage of routing the air filter away from the
engine bay is so the high temperatures do not affect the density of the
intake charge, resulting in more power. The drawback is that the filter is
more vulnerable to ingesting water, especially if the car is extremely
lowered.

Moving up to a high-performance tire gets you better handling over other
all-season tires, but at the expense of ride and treadlife. Along with the Turanza below, reviews say
the Traction A/T all-season tire is the best choice in a long-life,
durable, all-weather tire for cars or minivans. In testing, the H-rated BF
Goodrich Traction T/A achieves the best balance of performance factors in a
comparison with four other popular tires. Reviewers say the Traction T/A
strikes a balance of ride quality, wet and dry braking, below-average tread
noise and value. The Traction T/A comes in H, T and V speed ratings and
carries a 60,000-mile limited treadlife warranty.

Ford Expedition

|
Four-cylinder and V-6
sport utilities have their place. But when you've got a big ski boat to tow
cross country in July, clients to host in August, and a gaggle of teenagers
to take to the ski slopes in December, what you need is the 2006 Ford Expedition
4WD. It offers this astounding range
of skills and a lot more—including true off-road capability, a wide range
of trim levels from the XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, Eddie Bauer, Limited and King
Ranch, and best-in-class cargo space. Thanks in part to this huge bandwidth,
customer loyalty is high—the Expedition has won the Polk Automotive Loyalty
Award in its segment three years in a row (2003-2005 model years). Adding
to its appeal for 2006 are two new exterior colors, Pewter Clearcoat Metallic and Dark Copper Clearcoat
Metallic.

Ford Mustang

|
The new standard 4.0-liter
SOHC V-6 generates a very respectable 210 hp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque, 17
more horses and 15 more lb.-ft. than the pushrod 3.8-liter it replaces.
It's smoother and more compact and incorporates many of the V-8's advanced
technologies, including low-profile heads and a composite intake manifold.
That said, the 300-hp 4.6-liter V-8 provides the
ultimate in instant gratification. Tickle the right pedal, and it leaps
into action, sounding every bit as sweet as those emissions-unrestricted
V-8s of old, especially in the delightfully decadent top-down convertible.

Complimenting the Jetta's dynamic driving

and four-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage (which ever
comes first), and four years of free roadside assistance, the new Jetta offers a worry-free driving experience. In
addition, the new Jetta is available with a TDI
diesel engine capable of 36 mpg city/41 mpg highway.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord

level adjustments for 2006. Freshened front and rear styling includes new
versions of the bumper fascias, front grille, trunk lid, and taillights. Powertrain updates include slightly more power for the
four-cylinder and V6 engines and the availability of a six-speed manual
transmission on V6-equipped sedans. Trim levels include a new
value-oriented Value Package (VP) model positioned above the previously
available DX and a Special Edition (SE) trim positioned between the LX and
EX. Minor interior updates and standard stability control for V6-equipped
cars round out the changes for the 2006 Accord.

BMW 3 Series

|
Two
version of the 2006 3-Series sedan are on sale: the 325i and 330i. While both
carry a new dual-cam, 3.0-liter inline six, the 325i makes 215 horsepower
and 185 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 330i's engine receives a three-stage
induction system and tweaked engine mapping to boost power levels to 255
ponies and 220 lb.-ft. of twist. In both models, a six-speed manual drives
the rear wheels, while a six-speed Steptronic
slush box (with normal, sport and manual modes) is available. Suspension
augmentation includes an all aluminum double-pivot front suspension and a
new five-link setup in the rear. Standard and Sport calibrations are
offered, and run-flat tires are now standard. Sport models also receive
plus-one wheel sizes shod in low profile performance rubber. Ultimately,
BMW will offer the redesigned Three in sedan, coupe, convertible, and station
wagon styles, but these variations will arrive at staggered intervals over
the next two years. Plus, BMW's all-wheel xDrive
system will be available for those living in the Snow Belt.

Honda Civic

|
The 2006 Honda Civic sedan is available in three main trims: DX, LX, EX.
(A new Civic Hybrid sedan is also available.) An updated and more powerful
version of the Civic's 1.8-liter engine produces
140 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque, and has better EPA fuel mileage
estimates. There's also a new five-speed automatic transmission that
replaces the previously available four-speed. All Civic sedans have a
revised interior design that features a two-tier instrument panel, improved
seating areas and a multi-functional center console. Significant safety
advances for 2006 include an improved body structure and making the
following items standard equipment: Front side-impact airbags,
front-and-rear side-curtain airbags, active head restraints, and antilock
brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution.
Availability of luxury-oriented features has also been expanded. There's an
optional navigation system found on the EX, for example, and a special
Apple iPod connectivity jack.

Nissan Altima

|
In 2002,
Nissan challenged our perception of what the family sedan could be, taking what was mostly a boring, appliance of a
vehicle and transforming it into the third-generation Altima.
As an exciting, attractive car with a high degree of desirability and the
ability to evoke the passion to drive it hard and fast, the Nissan Altima made the family sedan something to be wanted
rather than just needed. Others in the class have subsequently followed the
success of this formula, but the Nissan Altima is still a fun-loving alternative to the Honda Accord, Mazda 6 and
Mitsubishi Galant. Those seeking a comfortable,
supple ride will want to avoid the SE and SE-R trim lines, since they're
built for speed junkies with suspensions tuned to deliver performance over
comfort.

Chrysler 300

|
All 2006
Chrysler 300 sedans get a standard tire pressure monitoring system,
a cruise-on indicator in the gauge cluster, and an auxiliary audio jack.
Touring models get a new machined-finish wheel as standard, while a new
option package on the 300 Touring includes an eight-way power passenger's
seat, heated front seats, and express up/down windows. All Chrysler 300s
except the Base can be ordered with a DVD entertainment system that pops up
from the center console and can be viewed by rear seat passengers. Buyers
of the 300 SRT-8 get to learn how to handle all 425 horses at the SRT Track
Experience, and can opt for a new Kicker SRT High Performance Audio system
with 13 speakers, a 322-watt amp, and a 100-watt subwoofer. Silver Steel
Metallic paint is also new for the SRT-8, while other 300s can be coated in
Linen Gold paint from last year's Signature Series. Deep Lava Red is
discontinued for 2006.

Honda Odyssey

|
Until
Honda arrived on the scene in 1999 with the excellent second-generation
Odyssey minivan, Chrysler ruled the segment with the Chrysler Town &
Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. What made the Honda
Odyssey click with consumers? A third-row seat that folded into a well in
the floor, second-row seats that could slide together or remain split
apart, dual power sliding doors, a powerful V6 engine, handsome styling,
excellent crash test scores, and Honda's reputation for reliability. The 2006 Honda Odyssey raises the bar again, with a cadre of safety features, multiple
powered doors, a multi-configurable interior, and a host of entertainment
features to keep the whole family happy on long road trips. On the minivan
market, the Nissan Quest is for people who like to drive, and the Toyota
Sienna is the cushy cruiser. Honda's new Odyssey neatly splits the
difference between the two, and is our pick for the best minivan sold
today.

II four-wheel-drive system, two-tone leather
upholstery, a steering wheel made of real wood, side-impact airbags, a parking
sensor system, a navigation system, and Sirius satellite radio. Platinum
accents inside and out help identify the new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Overland model, and the wood trim inside is the real deal. Options for the
fully-loaded Overland
are limited to a DVD entertainment system, an Off-Road package, and an
engine block heater. All 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokees get stability control as
standard equipment, and the front windows have automatic up/down operation.
Laredo V6 models can be equipped with Quadra Trac

Chevy Camaro
>
|
This was not a retro or reissued '69 Camaro.
In fact, some might have wondered if this car was designed in the Chevy
studio at all. It's edginess looked Cadillac
inspired, and if all you caught was a quick glance through the crowd around
the car, you might have thought you'd wandered out of the GM display and
into the Mitsubishi stand.
GM says the Camaro concept is
a "thoroughly modern interpretation of the classic sport coupe"
with "dramatic design" and "responsive performance."
GM still is working on the rear-wheel-drive Zeta
platform on which a future production Camaro
would be built. The concept version was based on the same architecture as
the Pontiac Solstice, though that platform was modified to accept a
400-horsepower, small-block V8 powertrain
borrowed from the Chevrolet Corvette.
By using Active Fuel Management to shut off cylinders
not needed for highway cruising, GM figures the modern Camaro
could achieve 30 miles per gallon in such circumstances, yet still provide
the off-the-line muscle that made the pony cars appealing in the first
place. Putting that power to the pavement in the concept cars are huge
22-inch rear wheels, with 21s up front to provide steering control and with
14-inch disc brake rotors to provide stopping power.
While the exterior has a modern edge and attitude, the
interior has more retro styling cues with two large main gauges and with
other gauges located at the front of the center console.
GM says the concept "is intended to explore
customer reaction to design and engineering elements that might lead to an
all-new version of the Camaro," the Chevy
pony car that ceased production after the 2002 model year.
The
Camaro concept was unveiled at the 2006 North
American International Auto Show in Detroit.
We're looking for production to resume as soon as 2008.

Auto loans with bad credit
“Lenders relax
their standards for those with flawed payment histories”
|
NEW YORK - Worried that your less-than-perfect
credit is going to keep you from buying the car you want?
Don't be.
Chances are you will be able to land an auto loan.
Today, banks, credit unions and finance companies are all making loans to
people with flawed credit. Many people who wouldn't qualify for an auto
loan five years ago can get one now.
"They've loosened credit standards to the
point that anyone can get a car," said Art Spinella,
vice president of CNW Marketing Research in Bandon, Ore.
"It's banks. It's
finance companies. It's everybody."
Work to save money
How good a deal you get will depend on how many
bumps you have on your credit and how much work you're willing to do before
setting foot in an auto dealership.
Remember, dealers want everyone to buy their cars,
and that includes folks with dinged or damaged credit. So in addition to
offering financing from a manufacturer's finance company, such as GMAC and
Ford Credit, they also have financing deals with banks, credit unions and
finance companies.
"The finance manager is going to find someone
to approve your loan. It's just a matter of what you're going to pay for
it," said Fritz Elmendorf, a spokesman for the Community Bankers
Association. "It may not be the best rate out there, but it will get
you in a car."
But also remember: Dealers take a cut of all
financing deals they land. So a loan from ABC Bank through the dealer may
have a higher interest rate than the loan you'd get if you applied to ABC
Bank on your own.
Interest rates on loans for folks with bad credit
range from 11 percent to more than 20 percent. The key to landing a better
rate is to shop around.
"Not every place right off the bat will offer
you a good rate," Elmendorf said. "One company may offer you 15
percent. Another may offer you 11 percent."
Check credit report for mistakes
Before you start comparing rates, be sure to get a
copy of your credit report. Check to see that all information is accurate
and up to date. The last thing you need is to get bumped up to a higher
rate because of an error.
When shopping for auto loans, be sure to swing by
your bank or credit union.
"The broad trend among banks is to service
customers almost regardless of their credit standing," Elmendorf said.
"They do not want to turn a customer away, particularly if it's a
customer with a checking account or another relationship."
A larger bank may have a whole department devoted
to lending to people with flawed credit or they may have a relationship
with a company specializing in sub-prime lending.
Smaller banks are more apt to approve loans to
folks with credit woes on a case-by-case basis. The more accounts you have
at the bank the better the chance they'll be willing to work with you. The
same goes for credit unions.
Meet the banker face to face
It's a good idea to apply for an auto loan in
person. Screw up some courage and look the loan officer in the eye. Be
upfront about the problems you've had in the past. Did a divorce, illness
or accident throw you off track? Let him or her know.
"I've had people come in and say, 'I know I
had some problems in the past and I want to tell you about it' -- I like
those people," said E.C. Williams, chair of the lending council for
the Credit Union National Association and senior vice president of MacDill Federal Credit Union in Tampa, Fla.
"It speeds things up. You've got
eyeball-to-eyeball contact. You've got the ability to address any glitch at
that moment in time," Williams said.
That "glitch" may have been a Sears bill that you paid 30 days late when you were
between jobs. Those details can make a difference. And that's information
that a loan officer can't get from an online application or application
referred to them from a dealer.
When it comes to auto financing, credit unions have
had a reputation of delivering low-interest rate loans to members with good
credit. But that's beginning to change.
While some credit unions still have an
all-or-nothing approach to financing -- you either qualify for a
low-interest rate loan or you don't -- others are offering a range of
rates. This tiered approach to loan pricing allows credit unions to offer
loans to members with all levels of credit.
At MacDill Federal Credit
Union, one-fifth of the auto loans made between November 1997 and November
1999 were to members with dinged credit. Folks with flawed credit that
qualify for auto loans receive rates just five points higher than loans
offered to members with flawless credit. Current loan rates range from 6-1/2
percent to 11-1/2 percent on new car loans, and 7-1/4 percent to 12-1/4
percent for used car loans.
The practice of offering a range of auto loan
rates, known as risk-based pricing, is common among banks and finance
companies as well.
The choices are out there
So auto loan choices for people with dinged credit
are out there. It's just a matter of tracking them down.
Start early. Apply for financing before you start
car shopping; that will help you narrow your auto search. Find out how big
a loan you qualify for and at what rate can help you determine what kind of
car you can realistically afford.
When it's time to hit the dealership, consumer
experts urge folks to look at an auto purchase as three separate
negotiations: the price of a car, the price of a trade-in and the
financing. A car salesman will try to lump this stuff together. Don't let
him.
"It's kind of like a shell game. They'll move
the profit around so you won't be able to find it," said Jean Ann Fox,
director of consumer protection for Consumer Federation of America.
Blinded by the interest rate
It's easy to get talked into a bad deal. For
example, you may be so thrilled at the interest rate the dealer is quoting
on the loan that you may not notice when the purchase price of the car gets
bumped up.
"We've seen people pay $2,000 over blue
book," Fox said.
Avoid spot delivery. Some dealers will urge you to
go ahead and take the car home while they finalize the financing. Don't do
it. There's a good chance that they could come back and tell you that they
couldn't get the financing deal they promised you. You may have to cough up
a bigger down payment or pay a higher interest rate -- or both.
Be sure to get a used car checked out by an
independent mechanic.
"If they don't let you do it, that may be a
warning sign and you may want to go somewhere else," said Steve Rhode,
president of Debt Counselors of America.
Visit "buy here, pay here" car lots as a
last resort. These lots, while specializing in customers with problem
credit, have some of the highest auto prices and auto financing rates
around. Don't sell yourself short.
"A lot of people assume the worst and don't
try," Fox said. "You shouldn't give up without trying to see if you can get a loan at a more favorable
interest rate."
